Course Description
This course consists 2 parts which are and ‘Hands-on training in performing ICSI’.
‘Introduction to ICSI’ Course includes: the description of indications for ICSI, technical aspects of sperm preparation (including sperm from epididymis or testis) and preparation of oocytes before injection, oocyte and sperm selection, as well as the injection itself. The set-up and optimization of the ICSI equipment and procedure will be discussed and demonstrated. The course will also focus on how to set up a training program and use KPIs to monitor quality on the ICSI program.
‘Hands-on training in performing ICSI’ includes: set-up of the micromanipulation equipment, installing pipettes, ICSI dish preparation, sperm selection, sperm immobilization, injection of sperm cell in an oocyte witnessing as well as other laboratory preparations necessary pre-and-post-ICSI
Course Objectives
- To learn about traditional and emerging indications for ICSI
- To understand technical aspects of sperm preparation techniques (including sperm from epididymis or testis)
- To learn about the preparation of oocytes before injection
- To learn how to choose appropriate micropipettes, to get tips and tricks and troubleshooting.
- To provide a forum to discuss best practice in ICSI
- To follow the ICSI process step by step

Educational methods
- Lectures, discussions, breakout sessions in micro-groups for discussion and exercises
Minimal expertise required for participation in the Course
Participants must have experience of working in an Andrology and/or IVF Laboratory.
The participant must have adequate Wi-Fi, camera, and audio to engage during the Course. Courses will be run via the Zoom or Teams platforms.
